Camellias are in exuberant bloom in Sydney now. The colours of hot pink, pale pink, red, white and variegated stand out against their glossy green leaves.
This bee certainly seems to like camellias.

Heavens! I am back in spring already! Surely you are in the middle of winter? Anyway, seasons aside, these are GORGEOUS photos Kaz. If I had to pick a favourite it would have to be the ruffle effect. Just like a Señorita’s skirt 😀

That’s exactly what I thought — a flamenco dancer’s skirt! 🙂 Indeed, camellias flower here in winter, and because it’s so mild (compared to the UK) they flower for a couple of months. Quite gorgeous.

Well I know some camellias do flower in the winter here even, but I only really associate them with spring. Are these in the botanic garden then, or in the street?

In the street, everywhere. Often the size of small trees, rather than shrubs as I remember from London. I have some photos of them covered in snow at Easter from a park near where I lived in London. Not likely to happen here. 😉
