Gladioli and cosmos, Gore Hill Cemetery
For my entry in A Photo a Week Challenge: Muted Colors, I’ve gone with a photo I took at Gore Hill Cemetery in the Sydney suburb of St Leonards. I worked in that area for a few years and the old cemetery was a favourite retreat at lunch time, peaceful and quiet, with paths to meander along and benches in the shade.
In this photo, I like how the muting treatment draws the viewer’s eye to the oranges and yellows of the flowers.
(Taken at: Sydney)
I’d guess them to be cosmos, Kaz … I too have photos from here; but they’re not a lot like this little beauty … they’re some of Chic’s publicity stills from “Stone”.

My guess was also cosmos, so if we both think so that must be what they are. 🙂
There appears to be an entire sea of them in this photo — taken by Chic himself: http://www.nfsa.gov.au/blog/2014/04/01/vale-david-hannay/
I couldn’t find any more online.

You were up early! WP says you made that comment 3 hours ago, i.e. around 5am. It sure couldn’t have been the blazing sun that woke you today. 😦

Indeed not, Kaz: it’s perfect easter weather ! How often do we have the break under skies like these ?!
But sometimes I’m up at 4: depends on when Lui grows more bored with sitting outside my bedroom door than he can cope with. 🙂

You poor bugger. But you know, Kaz, easter is like this far more often than not.
And now I’m being a smart-(_|_). SORRY.

I thought it was, but I’ve been away for the past two Easters so I wasn’t sure if was mis-remembering. Actually, about 6 weeks ago I was intending to nip over to Vanuatu for Easter — good thing I didn’t! Our weather may be unpleasant, but it’s better than a Cat 5 cyclone.

I think M-R is right – Cosmos sulphurous – I noticed these all over the Sydney area and along the railway track in the blue mountains. Cheery flowers that seem to grow wild everywhere!

I shall update the post! (I love how you can trot out the Latin names, LOL!) 😀

Mmmm… but they keep on changing them so I’m not always right. And I do look things up! I was much better at the Latin names when I bought more plants.
